I LOVE this book! This book is talking about Laura Bridgman.Laura is blind,deaf,mute and she can't smell or taste.Laura had a illness called Scarlet Fever.She had this illness when she was two years old! Her brother and sisters had this illness also.But only she lived out of all the children in her family! I felt sorry for Laura Bridgman when I read this book.This is a really sad story.

I read this book with my daughter. I did not know of Laura Bridgman before reading this book. It was a fascinating book. Her neighbor that was very close to her helped her in many ways before she even went to the Perkins Institute. It is wonderful that she was able to learn so much. It makes you realize how much we take for granted.

Mr. Kilcup has done an outsanding job. Not only does he present a dozen hithertofore unpublished tales of everyone's favorite dectective, he puzzles the reader by relating his ancestral relationship to the venerable Dr. Watson. Good stuff! But for the idle mention of Legos, and a few other contemporary references, one would be hard-pressed to not attribute the whole of it to Mr. Doyle.

This set offers an exciting and refershing new look to an old classic. The author has definately caught the essence of Shelock Holmes and has offered a refreshing style of writing that can be enjoyed by many! Great set for a Holmes lover. Kudos to the author!

Our oral history of the tales of "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty" have certainly changed! This is an excellent source for anyone hoping to find the roots of the fairy tales which we all know and love today. Perrault's prose is surprisingly terse, which may grate with the modern conception of these tales, but he also holds nothing back. Thankfully, Philip and Simborowski include all of his tales, even the dark and disturbing "Donkeyskin," which has been left out of most translations. I have used this book as pleasure reading, but it really shines when I pull it off the shelf for serious essays and presentations. Philip and Simborowski provide helpful anecdotes on Perrault's life and the stories themselves, rounding out a work as complete as Perrault's original.

This is a lovely book with beautiful illustrations of Perrault's classic fairytales. At the end of the book Philip spends at least a page briefly discussing each fairy tale and it's history. If you want more in depth criticism of fairytales, check out his text on Cinderella or works by Zipes or Warner. If you want a beautiful book of fairy tales, this is great.

This was the first woodworking how-to book I bought and it has been very informative and I reference it often. With many helpful photos, the author does a good job of explaining all of the basic woodworking fundamentals (how to 4-square wood, how to cut joints, different projects, etc.). There is also a balance between using machines and hand tools. Recommended.

Looked over the book in a local bookstore and was intrigued by the furniture designs found in the book. Picked it up and found that the projects were as simple to make as indicated in the plans. Would highly recommend the book for weekend workshop hobbyists who want woodworking projects that are challenging and rewarding to work with.

This is an excellent (and probably only) English-language guide to thorough Danish grammar. Very refined grammatical points are exemplified and explained in terms that even a non-linguist can understand. This thick book is neatly organized, the material is logically presented, and is hip with contemporary language and usage.

If you want to understand the language of Danish -- and Danes are sticklers for grammar, both Danish and English -- then you must have this book or a Danish nun as a teacher. The cross-cultural equivalent of Warriner's English; everything but sentence diagramming. Not quite Strunk & White's Elements of Style, but I need its 600-plus pages. The terminology is "rather" British (see "copulative conjunctions"), yet it even instructs how to properly form colloquial sentences -- "so" colloquial that a Danish friend to whom I had written thought I must have made a mistake because the sentence structure I had used, as a beginner, seemed to arcanely correct. In short, this book is outwardly dull but extremely useful.

Encyclopedia Brown is a 5th grade boy who solves puzzles, crimes and mysteries as easily and as unconsciously as breathing.

Each book is a series of short mysteries (5-10 pages each) ending with a question - usually "how did Encyclopedia know that X was responsible for the crime". The answer to each mystery is at the back of the book. Solving the mystery takes no special knowledge, but it does require paying attention to detail. Don't turn to the answer too fast.

This book is the second in the series, but the books do not have to be read in order. I loved the Encyclopedia Brown books when I was growing up. I am reading them again before I give them to my nephew who I hope will enjoy them as I did.

Adults who like this series may also enjoy the Lateral Thinking Puzzles books.

You should read Encyclopdia Brown and the Case of the Seceret Pitch.It's exciting!! It's about a boy that solves mysteries.You should read it to find all the good funny mysteries in it.That's why I gave it five stars. Everybody should have one.

If you're thinking about getting it, get it. You'll be very glad you did.

Posner, who is arguably today's most influential legal thinker, has put together an invaluable collection of Justice Holmes' most memorable writings. The combo of Posner selecting Holmes is powerful: the selections invariably present the brilliant Holmes on timeless legal topics. So much brain power is frightening, and we are lucky to be able to get it all in one fairly short book. All the more remarkable is how Holmes' ideas have not aged a bit; the similarities between Holmes and Posner are obvious.

This book is a must for academically-inclined lawyers, judges and professors.

This book was great!! It had eight different cases, and all were great. My favorites were The Adventure of the Speckled Band, Silver Blaze, and the Adventure of the Six Napoleans. If you enjoy classics, mysteries, or anything related to o.k. creepy stories, I suggest you read this book.

This is a must book for every new Sherlock Holmes reader. For anyone out there who has not read any of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, this book introduces the reader to some of the best Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Silver Blaze, The adventure of the Speckled Band, The adventure of the dancing men, The adventure of the Blue Carbuncle are a few of the Holmes mysteries presented in this book. Each of the mysteries presented in this book expose different facets of Holmes and he is in his elements in each of them. That the book is in large print is icing on the cake.
